The clever folks at Zagat have three handy city dining maps newly out, for New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. These maps, small enough to slip into a breast pocket when folded, unfold to about two feet square, with an overview map on one side and inset maps of neighborhoods on the other.
Alphabetical listings surrounding the map cover about 220 of the top-ranked restaurants in each city's Zagat Survey, and more restaurants are pinpointed by name in the neighborhood maps.
The restaurants are color-coded by type of cuisine, and each listing has ratings from the current Zagat Survey for food, decor, service and cost.
The maps, which also include points of interest and clearly marked street names, are so well-designed and user-friendly they'd be useful for visitors to these cities even without the restaurant listings.
They're $5.95 in bookstores, or order direct from Zagat by phone at (800) 333-3421 or via the Internet at www.zagat.com.
Zagat plans eventually to publish similar maps for each of the major markets covered by the Zagat grass-roots surveys.
